The Alchemy of Bread: A Series about the Sacred Art of Sourdough
This series of sourdough classes is a journey in which you will experience the practical magic of sourdough and be supported on the integration of sourdough baking into your life. Each class you will receive starter, recipes, hands on experience, demonstrations, shared conversations, and tasty bites along the way. The goal of this series is to help you understand the alchemy of sourdough. We focuse on practical skills, mindfulness, and the sacred relational aspects of connecting with this living food. Below are specific descriptions of each of the 8 classes. You are welcome to sign up for one or take all 8.

1. Introduction to Sourdough Starter
This is an introduction class designed to meet you where you are at and help you learn all about Sourdough Starter Care and integrating starter into your daily life. My mantra for sourdough success is, know your Starter!! In this class you will
- Engage in conversation about sourdough starter. I will spend time answering all of the questions you might have about starter care.
- Participate in a sourdough starter gifting ritual in which you will mix your own starter replicated from Ashley’s starter that you will take home with you to get started.
- Taste some fresh homemade delights including sourdough crackers, white bean dip, pickles and of course some sourdough bread.
- Recieve a packet of recipes to get you going and sourdough starter care to get you going.
2. Learn to Bake Sourdough Loaves
Sacred Sourdough is a hands on class all about how to bake sourdough loaves. We will discuss the practical and technical side of sourdough bread baking as well as the ways that bread baking is an intuitive and sacred experience of daily life. In this class you will
- Receive the gift of a developed sourdough starter that Ashley has replicated for you from her own so you may begin at home right away.
- Learn the basics of starter management and all the steps necessary to be successful at sourdough bread baking.
- Be given sample baking schedules that teach you how to incorporate the sourdough process into your daily life and work routine.
- Mix your own dough in class and take it home to practice baking your first loaf at home.
- Taste samples of sourdough bread baked fresh in the oven during class.
- Feel prepared because you will get a detailed recipe booklet that includes recipes, process images, and resources that will support and guide you as you continue on your sourdough journey.
- Enjoy Learning about the joy of sourdough in community aroung the MAP kitchen table!!
3. Sourdough Cinnamon Buns!
Everyone gets excited about Sourdough loaves and it’s easy to understand why but, what about all the delicious and nourishing food you can make with sourdough discard? Savory or Sweet, the possibilities are endless! In this hands on class you will
- Receive the gift of a developed sourdough starter.
- Feel prepared with detailed recipe booklet complete with process images, the recipe, and additional resources to support you on your sourdough journey.
- Learn the step but step process of making hand made sourdough cinnamon buns!! In class each participant will have the opportunity to roll their own recipe of cinnamon buns to take home and bake the next morning.
- Be given sample baking schedules that teach you how to incorporate the sourdough process into your daily life and work routine.
- Taste sourdough cinnamon buns baked fresh in the MAP kitchen. The class is great for beginners or for those looking to expand their understanding of sourdough baking.
- Enjoy Learning about the joy of sourdough in community aroung the MAP kitchen table!!
4. Flat Bread and Hummus!
Sourdough Flatbreads is a simple way to use extra sourdough discard and a great thing to go with it is Jordanian style Hummus.
In this hands on class you will…
- Mix dough of your own to take home and practice.
- Practice rolling and baking your own flat bread in class.
- Learn the process to make smooth, creamy, and delicious hummus.
- Receive a sourdough starter.
- Feel Prepared with recipe booklet.
- Taste sample bites along the way.
- Connect with class participants at the MAP kitchen table.
5. Sourdough Pasta Class Description
Everyone loves Sourdough Loaves but did you know that sourdough starter can be used in many different ways to make delicious meals? Yes! And one of my favorite ways to use sourdough starter is to make sourdough pasta. Join me and I will teach you how to make handmade sourdough pasta. In this hands on class you will
- Learn how to use sourdough starter to make hand made sourdough pasta served with fresh Tomato Ragu!!
- Receive the gift of a developed sourdough starter that Ashley has replicated for you from her own.
- Mix a batch of pasta dough to take home with you and practice making pasta at home with your loved ones.
- Be given a detailed recipe booklet with process images, recipes from class, and resources that will support and guide you on your journey with handmade sourdough pasta.
- Joyfully eat a family style meal.
- Leave class feeling connected, creative, prepared, and nourished.
6. Sourdough Pancakes and waffles with Milk Kefir
Everyone loves Sourdough Loaves but did you know that sourdough starter can be used in many different ways to make delicious meals? Yes! And one of my family’s favorite recipes is my Sourdough Pumpkin Pancakes made with pumpkins grown in our garden. I serve them with skyr, nuts and fruit and pure local Maple Syrup. Join me for this demonstration style class and you will
- Learn how to use and care for sourdough starter to ferment pancake batter with milk kefir to make high protein gut healthy pancakes.
- Receive the gift of a developed sourdough starter that Ashley has replicated for you from her own.
- Be introduced to the milk kefir fermentation process and leave class with kefir grains to use to get started making milk kefir at home.

7. Sourdough Savory and Sweet Focaccia
Sourdough Focaccia! What a treat and so versitile in the kitchen. All the olive oil settles down into the golden and bubbly nooks and crannies. Focaccia, perfect for a rustic sandwich, delishious sliced as a cruncy base in Brushetta, and delightfully transformed by a variety of sweet and savory toppings. Join me in this hands on class all about Sourdough Focaccia. you will
- Learn how to use and care for sourdough starter to ferment gut healthy sourdough Focaccia Bread.
- Receive the gift of a developed sourdough starter that Ashley has replicated for you from her own.
- Create your own savory or sweet focaccia to take home.
- Mix your own focaccia dough to ferment and make at home.
- Be prepared with a detailed recipe booklet with process images, recipes from class, and sourdough schedules that will support and guide you through making this recipe at home.

8. Sourdough Bagles, Homemade Cream Cheese, with perfect Jammy eggs

These one-on-one sessions are for practical questions around fermentation, food preservation, and home-scale food growing.

Format:
$30- 30 min zoom session for those quick questions that once answered give you peace of mind.
$50- 60 min zoom session for more indepth coaching on fermentation, preservation or home-scale food growing.
