Oktoberfest: Spätzle, Schnitzel, und Kraut!
Oktoberfest! | October 20 | $90 | Buffalo Cake Pops Bakery | BYOB
Come celebrate Oktoberfest with a meal that has become a beloved tradition in my family: Sourdough Spätzle, Schnitzel, und Kraut!
Each year, my family gathers around the kitchen to make and share this meal as a way of celebrating our German heritage. Over time, we’ve adapted these traditions to fit our homesteading ways and contemporary tastes—and now I’m inviting you into the kitchen to make this special meal together.
This is a hands-on, collaborative cooking experience where we’ll work side-by-side to create an entire family-style meal. We’ll make sauerkraut while exploring the science and magic of lacto-fermentation, learn the techniques behind sourdough Spätzle and Schnitzel, and bring everything together around the table to eat, connect, and celebrate.
Along the way, I’ll share the stories, recipes, and practices that have made these foods part of our family life.
In this class, you will:
- Learn the traditional techniques behind making sourdough Spätzle and Schnitzel, with a few of our family’s adaptations along the way.
- Explore the science and practice of lacto-fermentation as we work together to make sauerkraut.
- Create a jar of kraut together to gain understanding of the process of how to ferment at home.
- Receive a recipe booklet containing the recipes and techniques from our meal.
- Work collaboratively with the group to prepare all of the elements of this traditional family feast.
- Gather around the table to enjoy a beautiful family-style Oktoberfest meal made entirely by hand.
- BYOB — bring your favorite beverage to enjoy as we cook, eat, and celebrate together.
This is more than a cooking class. It is an invitation into a family tradition—a chance to learn through doing, share a meal around the table, and celebrate the foods and stories that connect us to where we come from.
Come ready to cook, eat, connect, and celebrate.
Prost!
