Overview:

Nourished is a unique community gathering that blends culinary education, communal meal sharing, and collaborative meal preparation. Each event offers participants the opportunity to learn a new cooking skill, enjoy a seasonal meal together, and take home the building blocks for six nourishing meals. This experience supports participants in cultivating kitchen confidence, embracing seasonal eating, and building meaningful community connections. Nourished is designed to foster meaningful connection and reduce kitchen overwhelm while helping participants embrace seasonal eating and shared nourishment. Together, we strengthen community ties, support local food systems, and rediscover the joy of preparing and sharing meals.

Event Structure:

Duration: 3 hours total

  • 2 hours of hands-on culinary instruction and meal preparation
  • 1-hour shared community meal and discussion
  • Capacity: 10-15 participants per event to maintain an intimate, engaging experience
  • Seasonal Focus: Each event is seasonally themed, using fresh, local ingredients.

Event Flow:

  1. Welcome & Introduction (15 min)
    • Seasonal intention-setting and community welcome
    • Overview of the cooking skill and seasonal menu for the day
  2. Culinary Instruction & Meal Prep (2 hours)
    • Hands-on instruction in a new cooking skill (e.g., fermentation, batch cooking, knife skills)
    • Seasonal cooking and meal prep for six take-home meals
    • Collaborative, joyful cooking in a community setting
  3. Shared Community Meal (45 min)
    • Participants enjoy a beautifully prepared, seasonal meal together
    • Storytelling, reflection, and connection around the table
  4. Closing & Take-Home Meals (15 min)
    • Pack up meal components for home
    • Closing circle to share reflections and gratitude

Pilot Program Structure

Initial Phase:

  • Run once a month for three months
  • 15 participants per event
  • Collect participant feedback to refine the structure and menu
  • Focus on building a core community of engaged participants

Expansion Phase:

  • Move to twice a month if the pilot is successful
  • Introduce themed editions (e.g., family-friendly meals, plant-based cooking, ancestral foods)
